The Featherbed – Oudtshoorn

It’s been a minute… no wait, its been MONTHS!!! But you know; life is busy and we have to make that $$$ but I’ll always be here whether its months or minutes.

I am currently in a position that allows me to visit various places as an Independent Assessor for the TGCSA – if you do not know about the TGCSA is, you can read about them here.

My first visit was to a lovely self-catering establishment called The Featherbed. The units are beautifully decorated with modern features and fixtures to make any guest stay completely enjoyable. Inside each unit, you will find everything you may need, such as air-conditioning (makes a stay in Oudtshoorn WAY better), beautiful rain showers, WiFi, Netflix (on a flat screen TV, these folk ain’t playing wrt comfortability), Nespresso machines and a fully fitted kitchen. The Featherbed also offers complimentary braai facilities for guest use, a pool area, pool board and relaxation areas around the property.

The Feather Bed is not the type of establishment I would have expected to stumble upon in a town such as Oudtshoorn, however, the delight in knowing that such gems exist makes the traveller in me want to seek further adventures in small towns. The management of the establishment are true hospitality experts and will make all guests feel welcome and at home.

Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world is about 430 kilometres away from Cape Town making it a decent road trip for those who need the breakaway to the countryside. There are many activities do to in Oudtshoorn such as the obvious, Cango Caves and many ostrich farms where you can brave it and attempt to ride an ostrich or purchase goods made from ostrich feathers, skin and meat.

Furthermore, you can explore the town and pop into Buffelsdrift Game Lodge for a game drive, Rust n Vrede waterfall, Wilgewandel Holiday Farm which offers excellent activities for kids or visit Doornkraal Farm for some wine tasting.

Oudtshoorn offers a wide variety of activities for young and old and definitely a road trip worth taking.
